🎨 Celebrating Excellence in Art: Alecia Anderson
Baldwin Heights is incredibly proud of our very own art teacher, Alecia Anderson, who continues to inspire creativity not only in her students, but in educators across the state and nation! This past November, Alecia, alongside Alison Schmidt from Cedar Crest, presented at the Michigan Art Education Association Conference in Traverse City. Their session, Clay Tips, Tricks, and Lesson Ideas, brought together over 40 art teachers for an engaging, interactive experience filled with practical strategies, meaningful collaboration, and shared learning. And the excitement does not stop there. Alecia will be taking her expertise to the NATIONAL Art Education Association Conference in Chicago this March, sharing an even more hands-on version of this work. We are so fortunate to have a teacher who makes art joyful, accessible, and impactful for students while also shaping the future of art education.
🎶 Celebrating Excellence in Music: Amy DeBoer
We are thrilled to celebrate Amy DeBoer, Baldwin Heights’ outstanding music teacher, for being named a recipient of the prestigious Cindy Taggart Excellence in Elementary Music Award! Each year, Michigan State University’s music education faculty selects just one to two educators who exemplify excellence in elementary general music instruction, and Amy embodies that commitment every day. Her passion for making music fun, meaningful, and engaging for students extends beyond her classroom as she empowers fellow educators through professional development. Amy will be formally recognized at the Michigan Music Conference at the end of January, where she will receive a plaque and a cash prize in honor of her incredible work. Baldwin Heights is so proud to call Amy one of our own. Her impact on students and educators alike truly hits all the right notes! 🎵

On Thursday, about 40 high school mentors (Bigs) joined their 'Littles' at Baldwin Elementary School for their Christmas Party! All students are members of the organization Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) and the club is run between Sara Brimmer at Baldwin Elementary and Jeff Poelstra at Greenville HS. The Bigs gifted played games, had great conversations, and handed presents to their Littles while eating pizza donated by Pizza Hut. The Bigs invested a lot of thought into their gift giving, but received their own gift in knowing they were making a real difference in mentoring our young students and changing lives. Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute and participate in this great adventure of helping students aspire to be their best selves!
