Resource Teacher

The resource room offers support to students who have a learning disability. The general education curriculum is followed and can be taught in the regular classroom or in a smaller pull-out situation. Students can spend up to two and a half hours a day with the resource room teacher working on reading, math, or social skills.

Literacy Intervention Program (WIN)

Our literacy intervention program offers several different levels of intervention for students based on their academic needs. These needs are identified using reading data collected by teachers through multiple assessments including Acadience, STAR reading, and classroom formative assessments. Students work in small groups or one-on-one interventions to improve in literacy with a goal of reading at or above grade level.  Our interventionist oversees the program and coordinates with staff and students.

Mathematics Intervention Program

Our mathematics intervention program provides intense interventions to students in one-on-one or small groups  Students are identified by classroom assessment, observation, standardized testing, and STAR Math.  The goal of this intervention program is to improve math skills and solidify each student's foundation so they may be successful in their grade level appropriate expectations.  Our interventionist oversees the program and coordinates with staff and students.

Speech and Language

Speech and language disorders affect the way children talk and understand. These problems may range from simple articulation problems to not being able to use speech and language skills at all. Group and individual services are provided at Baldwin Heights for children who have trouble in one or more of the following areas: Articulation - difficulty pronouncing sounds correctly; Rhythm - stuttering; Voice - difficulty expressing self appropriately. If you suspect your child may have some difficulties with speech or language development, including preschoolers, please call Baldwin Heights Elementary School for a free evaluation.

Social Work

Our school social worker can provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of children and their families and to maximize the family well-being and the academic functioning of children. Their main job is to help students be as successful as possible in school by helping with a variety of in and out-of-school influences. Please talk to your child's teacher to see if the social worker can help your child.
